Welcome!

To those of you who are here for the first time, we want to officially welcome you to Combat Shock.

As you might already notice by the existing posts, Combat Shock was a blog that had been created in August 2007, but as of today has been relaunched with a new layout, new writers, and new overall direction. We are determined to post new entries every day and encourage you (the readers) to stop by whenever you can and contribute to the discussion by posting in the comments section.

One of the great (and possibly not-so-great) things about blogging is that posts are generally comprised of initial reactions to events, music, movies, news, etc. and more conducive to stream-of-consciousness writing as opposed to the sort of planned and organized style one would see in a column or journal essay. We think this is part of its innate charm.

You might also notice that we did not include our e-mail information. There is of course a very good explanation for that: we simply don't want you e-mailing us. Rather, if you have something to say to any one of us--or about any one of the posts on this blog--we would love it if you posted your remarks in the comments section so that everyone can view the response. The very nature of blogging is that it is not just a few select writers dictating information to the public. It should be predicated upon dialog, which is why we hope to have as extensive a public form as we possibly can.

One last caveat: everyone reading this blog should note that the writers are not particular experts in anything. The entires do not have an over-arching theme, nor do any of us allege to know more than anyone who might be reading. We expect to learn as much from you as you do from us on a wide array of topics, ranging from the social sciences (economics, politics, international relations, history and philosophy) to hard science and medicine to entertainment (music, movies, literature, comic books). Anything subject matter is free to appear on this site so long as it offers some insight, information or just plain anecdotal humor so as to help everyone understand this seemingly random and chaotic world that we share our time in.
