What Exactly Will This Do?

Creating websites specifically for environmental initiatives doesn't seem like it will do anything productive but create more information to sift through on the big WWW. I can see it being a symbolic move to induce large companies to have an internet presence to their environmental initiatives, but even so this seems that the .eco sites will be a 'dump' to relegate public face programs as 'net service'.
